Poverty means not just a lack of money but a lack of opportunities. Many children have to leave school and find their way in the workforce in order to support their families. Without proper education, the quality of rural human resources will be less competitive in the future.
The Board of Directors is headed by Col. Somkid Sreesangkom, Chairman, and Mr. Terumasa Akio, Deputy Chairman. The other six board members are as follows:
EDFs office is headed by the Managing Director. There are three divisions which are the fundraising, project, and administrative divisions. Their responsibilities are to set objectives, to draw up policy and to design workplans. All the work will be reported to and overseen by the EDF Board of Directors and the Management Team (MT).
Projects at EDF main purpose are to foster educational opportunities to the underprivileged children of the 19 provinces in Northeast Thailand. It is considered to be the poorest part of Thailand and also higher level of education in the area is rare. The donation funds received will be distributed to students from Grade 7 9. All students in the programs will receive educational funds for a period of three years until the end of Grade 9.
Over 20 years, working in partnership with several national and foreign government agencies, educational institutions, companies and organizations, has enabled EDF to continuously provide scholarships to and successfully implement development projects for many underprivileged children in rural Northeast Thailand, Lao PDR, and Afghanistan.
