EDF is a long established, non-profit organization whose primary aim is to provide scholarships for disadvantaged students in rural Northeast Thailand. Normally, a three-year scholarship is provided by a single donor to assist a student with financial difficulty to complete three years of junior high school. Donors will receive annual report of personal information on the educational progress of the students they are supporting. On behalf of donors, EDF has liaised closely with the Provincial Committees in order to ensure the transparency and efficiency in the transfer and management of scholarship funds awarded to students.
At present, there are over 3,700 schools working with EDF. In each school, either the Head of School or a guidance teacher will be responsible for nominating scholarship candidates who, if qualified, will continue their studies in junior high school.
As an effective management of scholarship funds for over 3,700 schools in 19 northeastern provinces requires a number of strict administrative procedures, which cannot be carried out by EDF alone, the Provincial Committees headed by Directors of Educational Service Area Offices in the Northeast Region have been established.
Members of the Committees are made up of dedicated staff from the Education Promotion Team, who has taken on an active intermediators role in facilitating communication between EDF and participating schools.
The Education Promotion Team is a governmental body whose work is mainly to provide support as well as to coordinate between different sections within its own office in all education-related undertakings such as scholarship, seminars or training workshop.)
