Recently the weather has been unusually unstable; quite a few of us have been down sick already because of the alternating blazing heat and cold rainy wetness. We hope that you would take extra care of your health.
Last month, some of you may have heard about the world food crisis, which affects Thailand as well as many other countries. Although rural schools in Thailand receive lunch subsidies from government on a per student basis, yet the average figure currently comes to a mere 10 baht per head.
Worse still, only kindergarten and primary students are supported. The schools have to take all possible measure to make sure that lower secondary schools students are not being excluded. The soaring food price, especially that of rice, makes the extended allocation of the already limited lunch budget a truly difficult task for the schools. EDF has then launched the
Scholarship with School Lunch Project
to lighten rural schools’ financial pressure and to make sure that growing-age students have full stomach so that they can learn effectively.
In a couple of weeks time, holiday will come to an end and students will be going back to school. A lot of them will be so glad to reunite with friends after more than two months apart. However, some might not get a chance to return to school as they had to either get a job in a factory or immigrate to big cities with their parents to help make a living. With the new
Bringing Children Back to School Project,
we hope to see increasing enrolment rate of rural children of school-going age.
Your thoughtful sharing of even a few baht for these unfortunate rural students would be much appreciated. Donation can be easily made at any store counters displaying Counter Service sign or
here via online donation.
As for this month activities, EDF will be running a 5–day May Trip to Khon Kaen Province, taking Japanese donors to visit, home-stay and do bonding activities with scholarship students. We will certain share with you lovely pictures of this trip next month.
