Applying for the EDF Scholarship for Underprivileged but High-Achieving Lower Secondary Students
Academic Year 2026

“After my mother passed away, I moved in with my grandparents, who live only on a small elderly allowance. My grandmother is bedridden with cancer, and I help care for her every day while doing all the housework.Despite the hardships, I have never given up on my education and dream of becoming a nurse. I hope for the opportunity to continue my studies and make my dream come true.”
Pornpimon or “Grace” is about to begin Grade 7 (lower secondary school) in the 2026 academic year in Surin Province. Despite growing up in hardship, she successfully completed her primary education with an outstanding cumulative GPA of 4.00, reflecting her dedication and perseverance.

She currently lives with her grandfather, grandmother, uncle, and aunt—a family of five. Their financial situation is very limited, as her grandparents rely only on a small elderly allowance of about 600 THB per month. Her grandmother is battling cancer and is bedridden, unable to care for herself.

Beyond handling all the household chores, Pornpimon also cares for her bedridden grandmother every day—changing medical supplies, doing laundry, and preparing meals for her.

Every day after school, Pornpimon helps with household chores and takes on the responsibility of caring for her grandmother—preparing meals, bathing her, cleaning, and changing medical supplies. Although she is still a student, she carries responsibilities far beyond her age with strength and gratitude.

After losing her mother, she moved in with her grandparents. Her father has remarried and now lives with his new family. He works as a security guard, earning about 350 THB per day, and sends approximately 1,000 THB per month to support the family. However, this is not enough to cover daily living expenses, her education, and her grandmother’s medical care.

Despite all these challenges, Pornpimon remains committed to her studies. She dreams of becoming a professional nurse, inspired by her grandmother’s illness, so she can take better care of her and help others who are suffering regain hope and strength in their lives.

Pornpimon enjoys studying mathematics and has consistently worked hard to achieve an outstanding cumulative GPA of 4.00. She dreams of pursuing a nursing degree, but due to her family’s financial hardship, her educational future remains uncertain.

Receiving a scholarship would give Pornpimon the opportunity to continue her education, ease the financial burden on her family, and move closer to achieving her dream.

“I want to finish my education and become a nurse, so I can take care of my grandmother and help others who are suffering. I will do my very best and make the most of this opportunity.”
