Pimwipa (Nan), Grade 8, Chaiyaphum Pro6vince
EDF Scholarship Applicant, Academic Year 2026

“Born on February 14, Valentine’s Day, Nan’s life has been filled with hardship. She lives with her bedridden grandfather, her grandmother who suffers from chronic illnesses, her younger brother, and other relatives — eight family members in total — in a small tin-roofed house. Despite helping care for her family and taking on small jobs whenever possible, Nan remains committed to her education, believing that education is her only opportunity for a secure future.”
My name is Pimwipa Ngamphaeo, but everyone calls me Nan. I am 13 years old and currently studying in Grade 8 at Ban Lat Phakdi Chumphon School in Chaiyaphum Province.

There are eight members in my family, including my grandfather, grandmother, other relatives, my younger brother, and myself. My parents separated, and my mother now works as a construction laborer in another province to earn money to support the family. We all live together in a small tin-roofed house with very limited facilities.

This tin-roofed house is Nan’s home, shared with her grandparents, younger sibling, and relatives — eight family members in total, with very limited facilities.

My grandfather has suffered from muscular weakness for many years. He cannot walk and has been bedridden for a long time. My grandmother takes care of him every day and has also been the main provider for our family.

In the past, she was able to work as a daily laborer to earn money to support my brother and me in school, as well as to cover my grandfather’s medical and daily care expenses.

Left: Nan with her grandmother and grandfather, who has been bedridden for many years.
Right: Nan’s grandmother with her younger brother, who is currently in kindergarten (K2).

Recently, however, my grandmother has developed several chronic illnesses of her own and can no longer go out to work. At the same time, she must stay home to take care of my bedridden grandfather. As a result, our family has no regular income.

We now rely solely on the money my mother sends from another province — about 3,000 baht per month. This money must cover food, household expenses, and school allowances for my brother and me, which is barely enough each month.

In addition to helping her grandmother with household chores, Nan takes on small jobs to help support her family.

I am currently in Grade 8, while my younger brother is in Kindergarten 2. After school, my brother and I help take care of our grandfather to reduce my grandmother’s burden. I help with household chores such as folding clothes, washing dishes, and preparing daily necessities. In the mornings, I also help my brother get ready for school before attending my own classes.

On weekends, I sometimes take small jobs whenever possible to earn a little extra income to help my family. My grandmother has to take care of both of us alone, while my grandfather remains bedridden every day.

Because of all these challenges, I sincerely hope to receive an educational scholarship to help ease my grandmother’s burden. I wish to continue my education, graduate, find a stable job in the future, and one day support my family in return.

Thank you very much for your kindness and for giving me the opportunity to continue my education.
