EDF Scholarship Applicant for Orphaned Students in Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces, Academic Year 2025

“After my father lost his life due to the conflict in our region, my mother has had to carry the burden of raising four children and caring for nine family members all by herself. She runs a small home-based business, but the income is unstable. I try to help her with housework and selling so she can rest a little. I love studying math and calculations, and I dream of pursuing a degree in business administration. My goal is to one day start a small business of my own, so I can take care of my entire family and give them a better life.”
My name is Salbiyah or you can call me Sun, and I’m currently a Grade 12 student in the Math-Science program, Narathiwat Province.

Since losing my father due to the insurgency in the southern border provinces, my family has struggled emotionally and financially. My mother, who now supports all nine family members, works tirelessly selling goods at home with unpredictable income. Despite her exhaustion and illness, she has never once complained—she simply wants her four children to continue their education.

I do everything I can to support her: helping with house chores and selling, just so she can get some rest.

At school, I enjoy math, calculations and using Microsoft Excel—it’s something I’m good at. I also love art and recently won second prize in a sculpture competition. These experiences have shown me I have more potential than I thought.

I dream of starting my own business one day. That’s why I want to pursue higher education in Business Administration—a path I believe can help me support my family and secure a stable future.

The scholarship I’ve applied for through the EDF Foundation is more than just financial support—it’s a bridge to my dreams.

Thank you for believing in the power of education and for giving children like me the hope to move forward.

"Even though my father is gone, I will never stop dreaming. I will finish school and make my mother proud."
